WPT Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: WPTE) is a media and entertainment company engaged in the development, production, and marketing of gaming-themed, televised programming; the licensing and sale of branded consumer products; and the sale of corporate sponsorships.
Founded in February 2002, prior to its incorporation, WPTE is a joint venture between WPT founder and CEO Steven Lipscomb, an award winning television creator and filmmaker, and Lakes Entertainment, Inc., whose founder and CEO, Lyle Berman, is both a "Hall of Fame" poker player and a world-class business executive. The current management team includes a former Disney executive, a seasoned production executive, Emmy-award winning set designer and musician, plus an award-winning sound, editing, and lighting team. WPT Enterprises, Inc. is a majority-owned subsidiary of Lakes Entertainment, Inc. (Nasdaq: LACO).
WPTE is organized in three divisions: WPT Studios, WPT Consumer Products, and WPT Corporate Alliances. The Los Angeles-based company has seen rapid growth in its scope, manpower and resources since finalizing its IPO on August 11, 2004. WPTE currently licenses its brand to companies in the business of poker equipment and instruction, apparel, publishing, electronic and wireless entertainment, DVD/home entertainment, casino games, and giftware. WPTE has partnered with River Gaming, LLC to create the WPT BOOT CAMP, which is an authentic, in-person instructional experience and features training from the show’s experts and championship players. WORLD POKER TOUR® and PROFESSIONAL POKER TOUR™:
WPT Enterprises creates and produces the World Poker Tour (WPT)®, airing Wednesday nights at 9pm on Travel Channel. WPT consists of 16 high stakes poker tournaments filmed at glamorous locations throughout the world, including Bellagio in Las Vegas, Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT, Aviation Club de France in Paris and the Borgata in Atlantic City. The WPT can be seen in more than 60 countries throughout the world. Building on the success of its first season, WPT expanded its roster from 15 episodes in Season One to 21 episodes in Season Two, including the ratings success special WPT Ladies' Night. The WPT also added a series of other specials, including WPT: Hollywood Home Game, which brings celebrities center stage at the WPT Final Table where they battle to win money for their charities and for a coveted seat in the WPT World Championship. In Season Three, two new specials were added: Young Guns and Poker By The Book, featuring top poker authors.
In 2004, WPTE introduced a second tour—the PROFFESIONAL POKER TOUR™ (PPT)—which showcases poker’s All-Stars, the top 200 poker pros, in currently five tournaments annually.
